General Questions

What is the IMHFS?

The International Maritime Human Factors Symposium (IMHFS) is an annual event that brings together maritime professionals, researchers, and policymakers to discuss and explore human factors in maritime safety.

When and where is this year's symposium?<br />

The symposium will be held from November 30th to December 1st, 2023, at the University of Strathclyde, the Innovation and Technology Centre in Glasgow.

Registration and Attendance

Who can attend the IMHFS?

The symposium is open to maritime professionals, researchers, policymakers, and anyone interested in the field of maritime human factors.

What are the registration categories and fees?
  • Standard registeration: fee of £100
  • Student registeration: fee of £50
Is registration open?

Yes, registration is currently open.

What should I do after registering?

Registered participants will receive an email confirming their registration once the payment is processed. Presenters are required to upload their presentations on the Submission page by November 15, 2023.

What should I do if I'm a sponsored attendee?

If you will be sponsored by your organization, please declare this as soon as possible by emailing imhf-symp@strath.ac.uk. Limited tickets are available for sponsored attendees.

Program and Speakers

What topics will be covered this year?

This year’s topics include Safety Culture, Human Factors in Design, Safety Learning, Automation Support Systems, Well-being, and Risk Analysis and Human Reliability Assessment (HRA). Based on discussions and interest from last year, we have added two new topics: Autonomous Ships and Human Factors, as well as Decarbonisation and Human Factors.

When will the program be announced?

The program and presentations will be announced once all presentations have been received.
